Fatima
Considered the largest shrine of Marian worship in Europe and the 2nd world, it is a place visited by thousands of pilgrims, who always arrive hoping to find spiritual comfort.
Undisputed center of religious tourism in Portugal, evokes the apparitions of Our Lady to the three little shepherds, Lucia, Francisco and Jacinta, in 1917, recognized in 1930 by the Catholic Church. The biggest celebrations take place on May 13th (with the Candlelight Procession on the night of the 12th) and October 13th. In between these dates, every day 12 and 13 are of celebration. The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fatima is in Cova da Iria, place of the 1st apparition. It includes the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary, with the tombs of the three little shepherds, the Prayer Area, the Chapel of the apparitions, the heart of all manifestations of faith, the Paul VI Pastoral Center and Houses of Retreat. You can also walk the Chapels of the Via Crucis and the Calvary or reconstitute the history of the three seers visiting Loca do Anjo, Valinhos, homes and Poço dos Pastorinhos (well).
